Here are some tips to help prepare you for college admission and scholarships:
Take the ACT or SAT?
It is strongly encouraged that you take the ACT/SAT during your junior year, if not earlier.
Once you have taken the ACT/SAT, it is a good idea to send those scores to the colleges of your choice.
STUDY, STUDY, STUDY!
Your GPA is important when being considered for scholarships!
Building your resume
Create a resume of all of the extracurricular activities in which you have been involved during high school, which can include but is not limited to: sports, academic and service clubs, band or choir, debate team, drama or theatre, and even church and community service activities.
A resume is your time to shine. Include any honors and awards that you have received. You can also include any work experience.
Having a strong resume will help you in the future when applying for scholarships at Southern Miss.
Explore colleges that are a good fit for you.
It is important for you to do your research. Gather information on the different schools you are interested in attending. What academic programs do they offer? What student organizations can you be involved in?
You should also make plans to visit your top colleges. The Office of Admissions would be happy to schedule a visit to tour the campus, meet with an admissions counselor, tour a residence hall, and meet with an academic department. Please call 601.266.5000 to schedule a visit.
