SUCCESS! Research shows that students who live on campus are more likely to graduate college than students who live off campus. In addition to a higher graduation rate, research also shows that residents have a higher grade point average than non-residents. Also, students who live on campus generally develop into more well-rounded individuals and are often more involved with campus organizations than those students who do not live on campus.
SECURITY! The safety and security of our residents is a top priority of the Residence Life staff. All residence halls are card access entry, allowing only those residents of that particular hall to enter using their student ID. There is always a staff member on duty for our residents. In addition, surveillance cameras are placed in a number of buildings to offer a more secure environment.
FUN & FRIENDS! Living in a residence hall provides a wonderful opportunity to meet people from across the state, country, and even the world. Whether your roommate is a close friend from home or you are meeting for the first time, the relationships built between roommates and other residents will last a lifetime.
CENTER OF IT ALL! Living in a residence hall means you are living in the center of campus life! There are so many fun and exciting events that happen throughout the year and living on campus means you are in the center of it all. From Friday Night at the Fountain to football games, you are literally steps from all the action. In addition, living on campus means you are within walking distance to all of your classes, the Payne Center and eating on campus. Everything Southern Miss has to offer is right outside your door.
OPPORTUNITY! There are so many ways to get involved not only around campus, but also within the Residence Halls. It is easy to get.and stay.involved while living on campus.
