Quality academic programs are the foundation of The University of Southern Mississippi. With over 90 distinguished and fully accredited undergraduate degree programs, your student has a variety of paths to success.
Honors College
The Southern Miss Honors College is the sixth-oldest acceptance-based honors program in the United States. Functioning as an independent college since 1971, the Honors College features its own dean, advisers, small class sizes, exciting active learning trips, honors housing and research opportunities. Interested incoming freshmen must apply by February 1.
Research, Centers and Institutes
Southern Miss averages $97 million in external research funding over the past three years and is ranked among the top 50 in the country for research funding by the National Science Foundation. As an academic and research-focused university, Southern Miss is home to a number of centers and institutes that focus on academic enhancement and advancement in numerous fields.
Study Abroad
Southern Miss is committed to preparing our graduates for success in today’s interdependent global village. We offer a variety of study abroad programs so that virtually any student can study abroad, regardless of major or minor. Study abroad offers our students a chance to acquire the international experience so vital in today’s interconnected world – while you earn credit toward a Southern Miss degree.
Academic Advisement
Your student will be assigned an academic adviser in the department of his major and should meet with this adviser at least once a semester, prior to the scheduling of next semester’s classes. Your student will meet with his academic adviser for the first time during Preview (orientation). An academic adviser will not only make sure that satisfactory progress is being made towards degree requirements, but can also serve as an invaluable resource for practical advice about graduate school, careers and success at the university.
Undergraduate Bulletin
The Undergraduate Bulletin is published annually by the University Registrar and is a comprehensive resource for Southern Miss students. Degree requirements are outlined in the Undergraduate Bulletin, along with course descriptions and details and specific requirements for academic programs.
Academic Calendar
Academic Calendar available here through the Registrar site.
